Alphabet

The Doromu-Koki language has 17 consonants and five vowels, listed below in the order used in the dictionary. The alphabet was developed during the Doromu Alphabet Design Workshop, held 18-25 March 2002 in Kasonomu village. Additionally the letters C c and J j are found in English words, usually names, which are not considered as part of the language proper; once internalised, spelling follows language convention, so that for example, the word ‘queen’ is written kuini. The letters H h, L l, P p, W w and Z z contain mostly borrowed words, so would not all be considered original. Note also the unaspirated glottal stop, while shown below, is not included in the total above, because it mainly occurs in the Kokila and 'Origo dialects, but also very rarely in the Koki dialect on which this dictionary is primarily based. And when it does occur in Koki, it is not found word initially.
