SeptuagintThis is a Greek version of the Hebrew Bible translated and edited for publication in Alexandria, produced around the 3rd or the 2nd century BC. Tradition states that there were 70 skilled Jewish linguists who traveled to Alexandria to do the translation; at that time Greek was a modern day language spoken in most of the known world. This is why many of the Old Testament quotes in the New Testament are taken from the Septuagint Scriptures. The Roman numerical LXX (number 70) is an abbreviation that represents the Septuagint.
