Introduction

The Iranun language is spoken by approximately 15000 people living in Sabah on the island of Borneo.  It is related to but distinct from the language of the same name found in Mindanao in the southern Philippines. The Iranun language of Sabah is classified as Austronesian, Malayo-Polynesian, Greater Central Philippine, Danao, Maranao-Iranon.

This is a thematic dictionary based on the maritime culture of the Iranun people. We hope that it will benefit the community in many ways, including the domains in which Iranun is already being used: preschools, literature, and periodicals.

This dictionary is a work-in-progress, and we welcome your suggestions. Please leave a message on the Contact Us page.
