Introduction

Kemedzung is a language spoken in the villages of Dumbu and Kwei in the Misaje Sub-Division, Donga-Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon, West Africa. Dieu and Renaud (1983) in the Atlas Linquistique du Cameroun (ALCAM) list the language as: Kemezung [872]. In the Ethnologue (Lewis, Simons, & Fennig, 2015) Kemedzung is listed as ISO language code [dmo]. Kemedzung is classified in the following manner: Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Beboid. Kemedzung is one of nine Beboid languages and there are around 3.540 speakers of Kemedzung (Lewis et al., 2015). In the local orthography the name is written as Kɨmədzuŋ.

The word list was at first about 2,500 words and phrases. These words were collected using the Inventaire Thematique de 2000 (Central African Word List). During two weeks of Rapid Word Collection in June and July 2015, another 13,685 words and phrases were collected by 48 speakers of Kemedzung.

This is still a draft of the Kemedzung dictionary. Currently work is been done to improve the quality of the dictionary and add extra information. For example word class, example sentences, etc.

The spelling of Kemedzung is not fully standardized at this moment. This means that spelling rules still can change.
