Welcome to the Osage Online Dictionary!
This online dictionary is serving two main purposes. First, it is sort of a staging ground where information is added, proofread, etc., while the logistics are setup for this information to be hosted on the main Osage culture website (www.osageculture.com). Second, once this information is hosted on www.osageculture.com, that location will have a more basic dictionary, while this dictionary will be much more technical, and will show more information.
Please note that this dictionary is still in rough draft form, and is in the process of being proofread! Please be patient while we finalize it.
You can browse English to Osage or Osage to English (see links below), or you can use the search box. The search box let's you search three different ways. By default, the search box searches for English terms. If you want to look up Osage words, click on "advanced search" and you'll notice a drop-down box. There, you can select English, Osage, or OsageENG. Select English if you want to look up English words. Select Osage if you want to use the Osage orthography (you can use the Osage character buttons if you don't have the Osage keyboard installed). Finally, select OsageENG if you want to try to look up Osage words via English character spelling.
NOTE!! The Osage language font is still slowly being rolled out and added to various computer operating systems. This means that the device you are using may not properly display the Osage orthography. If it doesn't, you'll probably see little squares instead of the characters themselves. To work around this, alternate spellings using English characters have been added to allow users to still be able to search and learn.
